The agent-based approach in AI has been gaining significant attention. However, not all agents are created equal; they vary in their levels of autonomy and other characteristics. This presentation will explore why and how to effectively implement agents, what factors to consider when selecting a framework or deciding against one, the different implementation of agents in frameworks, and the common design patterns in agent-based systems. We will also discuss the benefits of using agents with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and the challenges associated with leveraging agents. The focus will be on practical examples, including code demonstrations using Azure OpenAI and frameworks such as Langchain, LlamaIndex, and AutoGen. Lastly, we will discuss some emerging trends.
